Is the Bible End Time Prophecy coming true?

is the bible prophecy coming true or does it just seem like that because its somewhat vague.

Public Comments

1. Yes because the world is so much worse now than it was in the middle ages or during either world war.

2. Yes it is and it looks like people need to believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

3. Yes, it is.

4. 1. There are several mundane ways in which a prediction of the future can be fulfilled:

* Retrodiction. The "prophecy" can be written or modified after the events fulfilling it have already occurred.
* Vagueness. The prophecy can be worded in such a way that people can interpret any outcome as a fulfillment. Nostradomus's prophecies are all of this type. Vagueness works particularly well when people are religiously motivated to believe the prophecies.
* Inevitability. The prophecy can predict something that is almost sure to happen, such as the collapse of a city. Since nothing lasts forever, the city is sure to fall someday. If it has not, it can be said that according to prophecy, it will.
* Denial. One can claim that the fulfilling events occurred even if they have not. Or, more commonly, one can forget that the prophecy was ever made.
* Self-fulfillment. A person can act deliberately to satisfy a known prophecy.

There are no prophecies in the Bible that cannot easily fit into one or more of those categories.

2. In biblical times, prophecies were not simply predictions. They were warnings of what could or would happen if things did not change. They were meant to influence people's behavior. If the people heeded the prophecy, the events would not come to pass; Jonah 3 gives an example. A fulfilled prophecy was a failed prophecy, because it meant people did not heed the warning.

3. The Bible also contains failed prophecies, in the sense that things God said would happen did not ( http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/proph/long.html ). For example:
Joshua said that God would, without fail, drive out the Jebusites and Canaanites, among others (Josh. 3:9-10). But those tribes were not driven out (Josh. 15:63, 17:12-13).
Ezekiel said Egypt would be made an uninhabited wasteland for forty years (29:10-14), and Nebuchadrezzar would plunder it (29:19-20). Neither happened.

4. Other religions claim many fulfilled prophecies, too ( http://www.bci.org/prophecy-fulfilled/ ).

5. People have been claiming the end is near for centuries just to get people in the pews.

According to the Bible, the second coming was supposed to happen around 2000 years ago, but that never happened so it was a false prediction. Numerous passages in the Bible portray Jesus clearly stating that the Second Coming would occur within the lifetime of his disciples.

"Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."

— Matthew 24:34

"This generation" refers to a span of 30-40 years, thus placing the date of the second coming before the deaths of the disciples. C.S. Lewis called this "the most embarrassing verse in the Bible" in The World’s Last Night and Other Essays.

Three more verses explicitly state that some of the people listening to Jesus as he preached would not die before he returned.

"Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."

— Matthew 16:28

"And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power."

— Mark 9:1

"But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God."

— Luke 9:27

Jesus also told people that "the time is short and they should not get married, not mourn, not be happy, not buy things, and not live "in the world". This again indicates that Jesus himself believed his return to be extremely imminent.

"What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.""

— 1 Corinthians 7:29-31

"But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."

— 1 Peter 4:7

The term "Second Coming" never appears in the New Testament. Furthermore, in none of the Epistles which were written prior to the Gospels is Jesus ever referred to as "coming again" or "coming back" or "returning." The only terms used are "coming" or "will come." If the Jesus of the Gospels is legendary fiction, then this is exactly what would be expected if early Christians were looking forward to the First Coming of Jesus, much as practitioners of Judaism are still looking forward to the First Coming of the Messiah, not the Second Coming.

Christian beliefs about the Second Coming

Obviously Jesus did not return within the lifetime of his disciples. Many Christians today still believe that the Second Coming is imminent, and talk about the impending rapture. As we can see elsewhere in the Bible, this is nothing new. Later in the story, the disciples begin complaining to Peter. As a result, Peter invents an ad hoc answer.

"Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.... But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

— 2 Peter 3:3-8

Thus an ad hoc case is made that when Jesus said that his return was "imminent" and "at hand" he really meant "thousands of years from now".

6. Christians are doing everything they can to make damn sure it happens.

7. It will never come true, you will only see that happen when all of the chosen suddenly vanish....hehehehe and then life will be good.

8. The true future, is found in the Book of Revelation in the Bible

In the future, there will be a one-world government led by antichrist for seven years, after the Rapture. The antichrist will murder millions of people.

After that, Jesus will return to the earth and set up HIS Kingdom! :D

Right now, we are in chapters 2 and 3 of Revelation :)

Read Revelation. Here is a website that teaches the meaning of every verse of every Book in the Bible: http://www.soniclight.com/constable/notes.htm

Scroll down to the link for Revelation, and use it to explain any verses that you might not understand.

That is all in the future, but RIGHT NOW, YOU NEED SALVATION! Because any of us could die any time, and after death, it is too late to be saved.

The ONLY WAY to get into heaven, is by you believing in Jesus for His free gift of salvation! John 3:16!

Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much! :D And the Trinity is true!

The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to hell, is by believing in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus for His free gift of salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!

Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus alone to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).

Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die! :D

9. It may very well be but no one knows for sure.
Every generation has thought the prophecies were coming about in their time but so far it hasn't.

10. I can honestly say that you need to serious professional help if you believe that the end times prophecy is coming true.

11. Yes. The christians are forming terrorist groups to murder police, unbelievers, and their children. The christians will not stop the killing until the streets run red with the blood of their enemies.

12. When I was a kid everyone was convinced that Revelation referred to the Soviet Union. Remember that, old-timers? Any vague prophecy can be molded to fit any time in history. Get a better predictor: science!

13. i hope so

14. The Bible, by no means could be vague. I don't even know where you come up with such things. Last time I checked it was incredibly descriptive. But of course it seems vague to you because it does not mark when Jesus will come back, but only shows the warnings. There is a reason for that, and I hope later in your life you will figure it out.

15. what is so vague? Men will love pleasure more than they love God.
Men will worship creation rather than the Creator?
Earthquakes in diverse places.Wars and rumors of wars
the rising and spreading of the Anti-Christ spirit
No natural affection.....(abortion,killings in war, murders etc)
Drinking and eating, giving and taking in marriage..(divorce is rampant these days) even among 'professing' christians.
Vague?.................I think NOT
Watch , for you do not know the Hour in which your Lord will return!

16. Daniel 12 is true and happened

17. Did you know that many of the prophecies in the Bible actually occurred before they were even written about. Yup! That's true. In other words, the future was predicted after it had already happened. That makes accuracy of prophecy pretty easy for anyone!

This is why end-of-the-world prophecies are always wrong!

18. People have been carrying around those the end is near signs for 1000 years Their just not in Latin anymore. Dude, where's my Apocalypse?

19. The bible is vague because the prophecy won't happen. It is a prophecy for a reason and not the truth. It probably already happened. We'll never know. I could care about what the bible says anyways.

20. It's going to happen eventually.

Could you tell me which verses, instead of vaguely referring to the 'End Time Prophesy'.

21. No!

The Bible talks about the end times (or end of the age / aeon) of Jews, which happened in AD 67-70.

It does not tell about any other end of the world.

Presently End Time Prophecy has become a big business, every time there is a war or terrorist attack they publish new versions of the old books with a find & replace of dates and events, and make money.

Don't get cheated! God will not punish innocent masses (read the last verse of the Book of Jonah)

22. Yes. Right in front of our eyes.

23. I agree with dream time whatever the third response i think. its about the prophecies being fulfilled and what not and under what conditions that's a very good one and no it's not going to happen like the bible says it will happen how it happens and we may hasten it but it couldn't be foreseen much earlier than like 50 years before it happened i would think. Like some scientific evidence that said oh crap the world is def. gunna end like in two years b/c of say an asteroid or something but someone can say anything vague and then later be said to have been correct.
