1. Oh my. The (geographical) Nation of Israel is a political entity that was formed after WWII by a determined people who had had just about enough of being forced to live in somebody else's country at somebody else's mercy (of which there was little or none). They stopped waiting on God, took matters into their own hands, and were shrewd enough and possibly right enough to say that they were taking the land because it was promised to them by God.

People's take on Israel is much like the take of the blind men with the elephant: The blind man who felt the ear said "This beast is soft and pliable." The blind man who touched the trunk said, "This beast is tubelike and tough." The blind man who touched the foot said, "This beast is tough and thorny, with an exoskeleton." If you want to believe that the Nation of Israel is a fulfillment of end time prophecy, then by golly, that's absolutely just exactly what it is. From your perspective. To which you have a perfect right.
