Have you noticed that all the 2012 endtimes, doomsday, prophecy hype has really died down lately? Why is this?
It seems to me that about two or three years ago there was non stop discussion over this 2012 idiocy. But now, with the start of 2012 just days away, its all gone pretty quiet.
My theory is that since NOTHING has happened that the 2012 believers were expecting to see in the run up to this year, they are beginning to realise that it was all a bunch of nonsense.
Public Comments
1. Really? I have seen an increase I think.
According to 2012 hoax site. People who field questions on astrophysics from the public (such as people who tour schools etc) are seeing an increase.
Still Id hope you are right!
2. Oh my god it's Doc from back to the future!
3. If by "days away" you mean 379 days, then yes it is "days away".
Yeah I noticed it has died down a bit.
4. Out of style I hope.
5. Maybe you are right. Maybe some regulars here and elsewhere are getting through to the kids who are being sucked in by this junk, or maybe there is some other middle school rumor taking over. The Lady Gaga and the Illuminati garbage, for instance.
6. Something catastrophic doesn't have a "run up" in the years prior, so that isn't why the hype has died down. There is some question as to whether the year was interpreted wrong, that may have slowed it down a bit. It has probably quieted down because it is the holiday season for religions and the New Year celebrations. It is time for family and celebrations instead of a time for worry. There is a lot of news going on, so no time fillers are needed.
You will see a lot more again as 2011 nears its end, just like when 1999 rolled into 2000...remember all the world was going to go dark and shut down because the computers wouldn't accept the date. It didn't happen, but that didn't stop the entire end of 1999 from being blitzed with news about "fixes" in the works, and warning people to store up on food, candles, and water.
7. The doom and gloom folks read the Rosetta stone wrong. It was off because of daylight savings time. They have now officially set the end of the world back until 2013. Enjoy.
.
8. They're quite indeed. Possibly are now members of the 39,000th protestant ministry.
9. Hopefully people have matured a bit.
One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or about 5125 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world. Here is what a Mayan elder says on the subject: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/6300744/2012-is-not-the-end-of-the-world-Mayan-elder-insists.html
These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.
Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)
Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.
The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.
The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.
Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.
