What is your view on the 2012 Doomsday Prophecy?
Personally, I think that 2012 (I am going to call it) is absolutely ridiculous. Just because a calender that is not familiar to us and a calender that we do not use ends on this particular date, that means the world is going to end on this particular date. What are the chances of the Mayans deciding to give up writing a calender because there was no real point to doing it? Very high, I think that the Mayans could have decided that the hell with this, we will not be around anyway when this happens. Maybe they were invaded while writing a calender. There is no scientific evidence to support this outrageous claim that the world is going to end. The World was supposed to end so many times in the past, what makes this time different?

1. I think it is completely idiotic and very annoying.
2. I think people should search for questions that are asked almost every day.
3. There is no 'doomsday prophesy'. It's something some have hyped to make a buck...
The Mayans couldn't even predict their own demise...
It only continues to prove how gullible some people can be...
4. It's really annoying and NEEDS to stop, now.
I know my teachers from elementary school have students who are questioning why they're even in school because of the dumb 2012 thing and are pretty apathetic towards working (these are like 4th and 5th graders). It's very annoying
5. Nonsense. Thanks for asking.
6. The Mayans didn't even PREDICT the end of the world. They have predictions that date past 4000 BC. Also, there is now another one: 2011 (By some religious fanatic.)
There will always be end of the world theories because instead of actually trying to enjoy your life, people constantly try to think of their death.
7. The rapture already happened and you missed it. I am typing from heaven.
8. It's bunk.

9. bah! jumbug!!
10. I experienced this sort of thing before, only it was 1999, and it didn't revolve around the world ending... but rather all computer systems failing, resulting in global chaos.
Just as many people bought into that, as have bought into this.
11. There is actually alot of really compelling evidence for the prophecy if you research it. My problem is that The bible states no man knoweth the hour of his death. Long story short it's really creepy but im under the impression that something may happen but I can't say thats the end of mankind. recent events (oil spills, world debt/unity) also say if there is a time to end it all its darn close.

Mayan Long Count Calendar.
The Long Count calendar is organised into the hierarchy of cycles shown at the right. Each of the cycles is composed of 20 of the next shorter cycle with the exception of the tun, which consists of 18 uinal of 20 days each. This results in a tun of 360 days, which maintains approximate alignment with the solar year over modest intervals--the calendar comes undone from the Sun 5 days every tun.
The Mayans believed at at the conclusion of each pictun cycle of about 7,885 years the universe is destroyed and re-created. Those with apocalyptic inclinations will be relieved to observe that the present cycle will not end until Columbus Day, October 12, 4772 in the Gregorian calendar. Speaking of apocalyptic events, it's amusing to observe that the longest of the cycles in the Mayan calendar, alautun, about 63 million years, is comparable to the 65 million years since the impact which brought down the curtain on the dinosaurs—an impact which occurred near the Yucatan peninsula where, almost an alautun later, the Mayan civilisation flourished. If the universe is going to be destroyed and the end of the current pictun, there's no point in writing dates using the longer cycles, so we dispense with them here.
Dates in the Long Count calendar are written, by convention, as:
baktun . katun . tun . uinal . kin and thus resemble present-day Internet IP addresses!
13,0,0,0,0,3 Kankin.4 Ahau
This represents Dec 21 2012, se we still have 2772 years to go until the END !

13. I completely agree with you. It is just a made up lie that went too far. Lol that's possible that any one of those reasons could've happened.
14. It's crap, pure crap. They just made a movie to freak people out more. People thought the world was going to end in 1960, they thought it would end in 1999, and, well, knowing the crazy people of the past, they probably thought it was going to end in all the years that added up to 13!
15. IF the world is going to end in 2012, it is not predicted by the Mayans (whose long count has ended at least 3 times before now hat we know of. This is just another cycle). It is also not something which will come from space, as NASA has already said it's crap.
16. I always look for the odds and I say the odds on 2012 being the end of the world as we know it is 50/50 !
prove me wrong !
17. What? You mean it's not true?
Does that also mean that they didn't actually remove the word 'gullible' from the dictionary after all?
18. Romans: 3-5 If our unrighteousness brings out God's righteouseness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument). 3-6 Certainly not! if that were so, how could God judge the world?
Judgment Days would start, Only after these things happened.
(1) Natural disasters were the work of mankind hands.
(2) Isarel returned to Jerusalem
(3) The Third Temple
(4) The men of Nineveh stand up (They suffered horrible persecutions)
(5) 144000 sealed ones (They suffered horrible persecutions)
(6) The Queen of the South Rise (She suffered horrible persecutions)
(7) The two witnesses
