do atheists really think that the United Nations got together and said "hey, let's fulfill a bible prophecy"?
Atheists, for whatever reason, say that Israel was a self-fulfilled prophecy. So do they think that the United Nations got together and said "let's fullfill a prophecy"?
nope, they couldn't have been thinking that. :)

2. no
3. I wouldn't put it past them. Why is it that so many believers think that the end of the world is a good thing?
4. true, the UN is mentioned in the Bible, lets see athiest deny it.
5. So... you don't think the jews wanted to return to israel partly because it was prophecied?
6. Regardless, it is something that was done, not something that just happened.
7. Most of the prophecies in the Bible are so vague that they are bound to come true at some point in time.
8. No, but I do think Christians use the bible to try and prove prophecy with current events
9. Yes, I think that it was. You need to realize, a lot of people are Christian which was especially true back then.. They would be influenced by their beliefs..
10. Ummm... No. Only Christians are loonie enough to believe in prophecies from a fiction novel.
Now, if you don't mind, I would like to get back to my Star Trek novel. Someday, we'll have a United Federation of Planets. I know it.
11. No, I think they got together and said 'Instead of fulfilling a bible prophecy, let's all post bullshit on the Internet'.

Do you believe everything you read in books? Why does your God love me so much more that he gave me a functioning brain?
13. Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalms 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
14. As an atheist, I don't believe in Biblical prophecy. Usually prophecies are so vague that they can be interpreted in any way. I think any event that seems to fulfill a prophecy (even the non-Biblical ones) is entirely coincidental, and was just interpreted that way by some hysterical, uneducated person.
15. no i think atheists think that the un was made to try to make peace and that prophecies from the bible are a load of hooey.
Duh.
16. No

What do you think?
19. Sure they think, inside their own
20. I'm not sure why they made Israel a country. I know our presidents are so pressured by Christianity, the feel the need to say they are, whether they are or not and many of the countries in the UN had that upbringing. It was at least in the back of their minds if they didn't outright say it but I'm sure there were other reasons for having a country you know would feel obligated and grateful to you exist in an area you think is hostile.
21. No, the United Nations got together and said "We need a place to put these displaced people after they were nearly eradicated by a tyrannical despot. Let's just put them in the area of the world that they originated from, and create a country that used to exist anyway." The "prophecy" was irrelevant, and meaningless.
22. No, but in 1948 the U.N. was dominated by The United States, and The President of the United States was Harry Truman who came from a region that saw saturated with Darbyite Eschatology, and so as a result the Truman Administration was prejudiced to favor a view which supported the establishment of a Jewish State of Israel in Palestine in support of Darbyite views of Eschatological prophecy.
23. Some atheists have this amazing way of shutting off rational thought when it comes to Israel. Because some Christians yammer on about Israel being the promised land, and Jews feel a deep connection to the land especially Jerusalem, they disregard the political basis on which the modern state of Israel was formed.
And it wasn't about displaced European Jewry. It was about the Jews who were already living there, some for decades, some for centuries, some for millenia.
