when did Nostradamus predict 2012?

I was doing research out of boredom on 2012, and I keep hearing about Nostradamus predicting 2012 (Kind of how they said he predicted the world would end on Y2K.)

I read in a few books that Nostradamus told his son in a letter that his projections would last thousands of years, all the way to 3797.

His son believes this could possibly mean that is when the world ends. One resources says Nostradamus told his son he believed the earth would be wiped from the universe in 3797 by a cataclysmic event. 3797 seems to be the date he has set for either the end of the world, or the end of as far as he could see.

He never, in my research, mentioned 2012 nor the exact date of 12.21.12

so where is this supposed doomsday prediction from Nostradamus? Is this another one of those fabricated predictions like his supposed 9/11 prediction that never existed until someone wrote it on 9/12 and credited it to him?

or kind of how he's credited with the end of the world prophecies during Y2K. I watched the discovery channel's 2012 Nostradamus prophesy show, and it's exactly like the Y2K show that they aired in 1998 or 99.

As for the Mayan calendar...

1. The calendar ends in 2012... but where is the doomsday prediction? I can't find anywhere where the Mayan's actually said "this calendar ends because the world does."

2. Our calendar ends every december... then just rolls into the next cycle comes January. Why is it so hard to believe the Mayan calendar will be the same way.

3. Did the Mayan's predict the downfall of their ancient civilization, because as far as I have read, they seemed clueless about their own problems.

Not to mention - They Mayans seemed to believe in cycles, when one ended another began. They didn't believe in "Ends".

So where is this whole 2012 thing coming from? Can anyone point me to exact quotes?

I don't know what to think about 2012 other than what the bible says. And Jesus says that even HE doesn't know when the end will come. Only God knows.

What do I think about 2012 tho? I think the end will come for many. I somehow have this gut feeling there will be mass suicides. Cults, and those who buy into it that will be so afraid of a horrible death that they will take their own lives. I can see thousands if not millions of people committing suicide in the days prior to Dec. 21, 2012.

what do you all think? I mean, I'm only (3 days) from 16 years old, so I'm not like a scientist or anything. I'm just going by what I've read. So anyone with more insite, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
LOL Kaila!

Public Comments

1. It's not gonna end hun

2. When he worked for the history channel. LoL

Remember that when you watch the discovery or history channels, you will see certain programming that is made to be truly educational and informative, you can tell it very easily because it will be boring.
However, since these channels exist for the purpose of making money, you will sometimes also see programming that is meant to be "sensational", it's based on very loose evidence and it is not reliable as a source of information. You can tell this programming easily because it will be shocking and entertaining, but the facts contained within are no better than what you might read in "the enquirer" or "weekly world news".

Edit: You won't have to worry about mass suicides, there were no mass suicides in 2000 (the BIG one) and there won't be any in 2012, but I do agree that it's irresponsible for them to pass this bologna off as fact.

3. odd, we're on the same wave length. I read during the Y2K thing about how Nostradamus was credited with predicting Y2K, yet he couldn't have since he predicted the end to be sometime in (I thought it was 3279, but looking it up you're right. it was 3797.)

I don't buy into Nostradamus or any "Doomsday" psychics personally. However, I agree that there will probably be thousands of deaths come 2012... like you said, mass suicides. Other than that, I think one cycle will end, and another will begin. Kind of how our calendar year ends in December, and starts over in January. I really don't think We'll see the end in our lifetime. That's just how I feel.

4. Nostradamus never predicted anything for 2012. In fact, virtually EVERY prediction of his that you ever hear, is made up by people who twist and contort his already cryptic verses into meaning anything they want them to mean. Never has an accurate prediction been made in advance of the event. They dig for verses they can twist after something occurs. Read the quatrain they say was a prediction of 9-11. Nobody ever said it predicted that *before* 9-11 and you can see how grossly interpreters cheat in order to make it look like a fit. They even ignore whole lines that *can't* be twisted to match the event.

This garbage comes mainly from a ridiculous documentary repeatedly and shamefully aired by the History Channel. They are not the least bit interested in the truth. Nor do they care if they are terrorizing millions of kids. All they care about is getting a lot of people to watch, as that makes their advertising space more desirable to sponsors. And of course, that means more money in their pockets.

The Mayans didn't know diddly about 2012, except that it marked the end of one of their long calendar cycles. Every bit of astronomical stuff you've heard about this is pure bunk. And astronomy is *my* particular area of expertise.

Relax. The only things we *can* predict about 2012 show that it will be an ordinary year.

5. Le français est ma langue maternelle and, at school, I had to learn medieval French in order to read, e.g. the work of François Villon.

Send me by email ANY ORIGINAL TEXT of Michel De Nostredame, a.k.a. Nostradamus, and it will be my pleasure to translate it into modern English. You will then see that he didn't predict 2012, or 9/11, or Hitler, or anything else. Humbug, all together! Or, as we say in French: De l'attrape nigaud!

6. no one really knows why he chose the year 2012. Its weird though because many ancient civilizations, such as the mayans, have also predicted that year. Coincidence, I think not.
