Why are people so afraid of December 2012?

Honestly there is nothing to be afraid of. Yes the Mayan calendar ends in 2012, but to them it wasnt the end of the world but a new beginning..a new phase. And so they say our world will be different, but its up to us to establish how hard or easy it will actually be and how to survive it. Here is a site that i came across that might actually shed some light and for gods sake people it is NOT doomsday..its all about a galaxy alingment...but then again human nature is to cause destruction...http://www.adishakti.org/mayan_end_times_prophecy_12-21-2012.htm and keep scrolling down. 5. i'm not afraid of it. I don't go by the mayan calender. i go by the american calenders that come out ever year. I mean, it's not that important. 6,6,6 already happend and the world didn't fall into the depths of hell did it?? that didn't happen so why should this?

6. Fear is an indicator that parts of your life need attention. The Lord has a way of avoiding the thing that everyone expects. Beleive you are going to Heaven regardless of the time frame. Worrying is a sin, cuz it demonstrates mistrust in the Word.

7. People have a hard time with change... the concept of new beginning is lost on a lot of people. They don't hear "end of this phase" they just hear "end". Plus I think Human nature, as you stated, is to cause destruction. It could very well be a doomsday. New phase could be new phase to the planet, but that doesn't mean we are going to be around to enjoy the new phase. I have a feeling if we aren't, it will be more of our own doing than any celestial alignment, though the alignment of the stars may be a marker point for the crossroads at which we make those wrong choices that will seal our fate. 8. Maybe that is why many people are afraid of 2012. Human beings often up hold the fleeting pleasures of the world, and to be told that the day is soon coming where what they adore the most will be gone is terrifying. I think of 2012 the same way you may, in that it might the time when we finally learn how to live in harmony, where we give unflinchingly, where we actually take care of our bodies and the earth the way that we should. I think many people fear that time because they will have to put up or shut. In other words, change for the better or die. And it's not just the Mayan calendar, many Mystics and ancient texts predict its coming. It all in how one interprets it, I guess.

10. Maybe it was because of the movie 23....on an honest level I would like to know as well. The movie did mention that year though and I haven't heard anything about that year until this year and of course that movie came out as well..go figure..peace and God bless

Well, I wouldn`t agree about the "human nature is to cause destruction", even though humans have caused destruction, there is still hope.

It is human nature to try to control others, out of fear, using fear.

13. No, but they do predict a change in the world.
And even scientists now agree that alignments in space may cause problems on earth by causing magnetic field changes, but we can't predict exactly how they will happen and what they'll do.

15. As a Christian and a believer in God's Word I don't worry about these man made predictions.

Jesus says no man knows the day or time that He will come for His church.
He did say it would be when we least expect it like a thief in the night.

16. because all the planets will align or some crap like that and two we dont see will also align and be visible. it is unclear what effect this will have on our gravitational pull. it may change our axis

20. just for the record,i agree with you,BUT,the Mayans are not the only one who are predicting somethings going to happen,this a Chinese proverb that has come close to predicting events on time lines using three coins and graph charts,very old as well,then their the fact that it could refer to the earth magnetic poles shifting north to south,then south to north,witch has happened and does happen in earths history with catastrophic
outcomes,or ....new beginnings,and did you know that in 2011 and 2012 their will be huge solar storms hitting the planet from the sun,this is a fact,so it is more than just the Mayans................but why worry,if it happens then you wont be able to do anything,but look back and say you enjoyed the last
5 years of your life since asking this question.
