Do you believe in the Mayan Prophecy? 12-21-2012?
Im doing an informational presentation at my college and was curious of popular opinion. As the prophecy goes the beginning of a new era will being on Dec. 21, 2012. This has been put up for speculation that the world will end.
Who believes the prophecy? Why or Why not?
Thank you!

1. i do not believe the prophecy. because i have no reason to? what if i made a calender that ended sooner. it really has no significance. call this answer elementary but thats what i think.
2. Hell no.
I believe that the world's going to end ONE day but I don't think it's going to end anytime soon. Only thing I believe in is global warming since it's actually HAPPENING.
If it just so happens - oh well. At least we're all going together.
3. Not, because it is not a prophecy, it is just the end of a calendar sequence. If they could have predicted the end of the world, they could have predicted other stuff which they seemed to miss. Like their civilisation dying out....
4. Pacal Votan who is credited with the part about the world ending was not a real person and is not recognized by the few remaining Maya. He was a creation of the Conquistadors who raped and pillaged the Aztec (Maya). They DO say however that there will be a new age. For absolutely sure it's a new age in that it means a new calendar, but it is unclear whether or not we will raise our consciousnesses or become peaceful or whatever people have interpreted from these writings.
5. Isn't it a little odd that the end date has so many 1s and 2s and a single zero and no other digits 3 thru 9.
It's just too coincidental to be believable. Then again... 9/11(9-1-1) happened.
6. I believe that the Mayans ran out of space on the round stone they we're engraving on and that Dec.12/2012 was the last date that they had enough space to put on the stone. There, now that mystery is solved.Bible prophesy is much more accurate, and indicates that there is a little more time left than what the Mayan's believed.
7. Perhaps one of the greatest civilization ever existed on history was that of the Mayans. They were very smart, very good in agriculture, very religious, but somehow their race just vanished.
I didn't know there was a prophecy, all I know is that they had a lot of gods. If I read your question right, when 12/21/2012, a "new era will begin," but I don't think that means Armageddon already. Maybe it says that there would be scientific advances that could change our lives forever, like scientists will have a breakthrough on stem cell research or human cloning. But only time will tell. Let's just wait and see what happens.
8. I built my whole future around that prophecy. I didn't do it on purpose.
9. ...no...
...life is short as it is...i'll live it now...
10. yes, well kinda, because their is a strong feeling amongst some leading researchers that climate change will have passed 'the point of no return', signaled by the northern polar cap completely melting!
11. Not the whole Mayan Prophecy at all.
I do not believe the world will end.
But what I do believe is that there WILL be a major change in the world.
Something drastic or good will happen.
:)
Hopefully, I was help.
12. Yes, I do believe in Mayan mythology, but not that the world will end on 12/21/2012. The first thing is don’t be afraid of 12/21/2012, because nothing is going to happen at all. Do you remember the Y2K frenzy? There is however one interesting astronomical phenomenon that will happen on 12/21/2012 when the sun rises on that day, as seen from Central America, it will be in the direction of Sagittarius in the exact center of the galaxy. While the Mayans deserve credit for figuring this out, as well as all the rest of their marvelous astronomy, none of this means their mythology is reality based. In fact they couldn’t even predict their own future of what tomorrow might bring! Although, the Mayans were the actually the originators of the 12/21/2012 mythology. They actually believed that the world had also been destroyed four times in the past, each time the earth was rebuilt, and civilization thrived again, now we are up to the fifth world, the Mayan’s believed this one will end on 12/21/2012 Doomsday. This is really no more plausible than the earth ending on (1/1/100, 1/1/1000, 1/1/2000) or any other specially predicted time. Many people really thought that the world would come to an end, but we’re still here, and 12/21/2012 will be no different than any other day. The Mayan’s that predicted this have been dead for a long time now, too bad they couldn’t predict their own certain future. Why should they be able to predict ours?
