Is the 2012 story a prophecy or myth?
I've heard crazy things about 2012 and a lot of these things sound true and are just too hard to believe! I'd really want something to tell me everything about this and tell me,"is this a prophecy or myth"? I really need an answer because this is just freaking me out and giving me the chills 24/7!

1. it,s all nonsense and hype. i can,t wait for the day after, as all the posts will have to be about the next coming end of the world.
2. The 2012 world ending issue is nothing but a complete hoax. Nobody predicted it....but there are a lot of crack pots out there who are just using it to try to scare naive people into giving up money.
3. its the end so send all of your valuables to me
4. the end of the world IS coming soon, but no one except God knows when it will end. not even the Mayans.:)
5. A prophecy, yeah. Only an idiot would believe in that in this day and age.
"THE ANCIENT ONES HAVE SAID THIS IS THE DAY THE WORLD WILL END ! 'TIS A PROPHECY, I DECLARE IT !"
See how stupid that sounded?
So no. It's neither. It's just the way the mayans kept track of time / the date / years.
6. this is the only thing that is going to happen. Warren Buffet is going to get richer, while Bill Gates (Microsoft) will go bankrupt. Steve Jobs (Apple) is going to become the richest man in the world. And there will be wars in Pakistan and Afghanistan and Iraq. People will cheat and lie and still fornicate. That's about it.
7. Well you shouldn't limit your choices to prophesy or myth.
If I tell you 'I am a prophet. If you give me $10 I will tell you how to save your life in the coming END of the WORLD!' What would you say? Sure here's my 10 bucks. Now tell me how to survive... Or 'Leave me alone you jerk!'
:-D Ah come on. You can afford $10 can't you? I have some photos showing the ALIGNMENT of the GALAXY and the EARTH and all the PLANETS! Your DOOM is AT HAND! Unless you hand over 10 bucks of course! Or if you can 't read I also have a VIDEO you can buy instead! SAVE yourself! SAVE yourself! BUY NOW WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!
8. There is going to be no doomsday event in 2012. When something ends (even something as innocent as an ancient calendar), people seem to think up the most extreme possibilities for the end of civilization as we know it.
When astrologers speak of the planets being aligned (something which doesn't really concern astronomers) they don't mean that the planets will actually all lie on a straight line at some instant of time. One calculation of alignments within around thirty degrees (about as close as they can get) shows that the last such alignment was in 561 BC, and the next will be in 2854. All eight planets are somewhat aligned every 500 years, and are grouped within 30 degrees every 1 to 3 alignments.
There is absolutely no scientific evidence supporting the claim that there could be a geomagnetic reversal around the time of December 21st, 2012.
the effects of such a reversal have been totally over-hyped.
We'll most likely experience aurorae at all latitudes whilst the dipolar magnetic field settles down to its new, reversed state, and there might be a small increase in energetic particles from space
we'll still be protected by our thick atmosphere.
Nostradamus was, by profession, an apothecary – which, in modern terms, is a pharmacist.
The predictions of Nostradamus can be compared to that of an arrow being shot at a blank wall on which the believers paint a target around its landing!
9. It's all fake, absolutely 100% of it. It's not even a good fake. Most of the so-called prophecies are downright laughable to anyone with a scientific background.
Here's a list of things that won't happen in 2012, particularly December 21st:
Planetary alignments: There aren't any.
Alignment of Sun with centre of galaxy: Can't happen because the centre of the galaxy is not in the plane of the Earth's orbit.
Once in 26,000 year alignment of the solstice sun and galactic equator: Happened in 1998. Did anything happen as a result? Of course not. Alignments mean nothing in measurable physical terms anyway.
Passing of the Solar System through the galactic central plane: Won't happen for 30 million years or so.
Planet X/Nibiru: Doesn't exist. If it was the size the claimants describe and following the trajectory they indicate, it would now be visible to the naked eye.
Pole shift: Magnetic pole reversal takes thousands of years and may not start for thousands of years. There is no reason to link it with 2012. As for rotational pole shift, that would take a huge amount of force on the Earth. Where is this force going to come from? Basically, it's a physical impossibility.
Solar storms: The Sun is due to reach a maximum in its 11 year cycle in 2013, not 2012 as some doom merchants tell you. No reason to suppose the next peak will be any more energetic than normal.
26,000 year precessional movement of Earth's axis: Doesn't 'begin', 'end' or 'wobble' but carries on smoothly and unnoticed by all.
The doomsday cranks like to tell us that lots of other cultures predicted the end of the world for this date. That and 'predictions' by the Bible, I Ching and Nostradamus have all been contrived to agree with this date and are all false.
10. MYTH! plus 100% junk science.
The 2012 hoax is FANTASY, and SUPERSTITION not SCIENCE!
Do you really believe that the 30,000+ amateur astronomers just in the USA!!, and the hundreds of professional astronomers, would have just MISSED seeing Planet X! No where on the internet can you find the sky coordinates for this fake planet..
No Near Earth Objects are on a collision course with Earth right now for 2012, and a magnetic pole shift takes thousands of years to occur. The rotational AXIS of the Earth has NEVER shifted 90 degrees!
Also, the Earth and the sun line-up on the center of the Milky Way Galaxy EVERY YEAR on December 21st! We are actually about 6 degrees away from the center and moving further AWAY! Further, the planets NEVER actually align in a straight line; their tilted orbits prevent this.

So please forget about this 2012 nonsense. It's just junk science gone wild on the internet!

Read NASA's 2012 debunking web site and see what REAL scientists say about 2012.
As for the Mayans, they believed that the Earth was flat and had 4 corners. They also believed the sky was held up by 5 trees each a different color, and the Earth was resting on the back of a gigantic crocodile floating on a huge pond of water lilies! and of course, they worshiped the SUN god! Their calendar was about as accurate as the ancient Chinese, Romans, Greeks, and Arabs. All of them used for farming and religious ceremony.
Good grief! Just "new age" hocus pocus! and junk science gone wild on the internet.

11. Definitely not a prophecy and probably not a myth.
It is a hoax (a lie told by people who know it is a lie, for the purpose of fooling other people).
---
The Big 2012 Hoax was fabricated by combining other hoaxes, lies and stories. Most of these had nothing to do with 2012. They were modified to fit a chosen date (also based on a lie).
Back in the late 1980s, José invented the lie that the Mayan calendar ended. It does not end. The Long Count calendar (the one used in the hoax) is a day-count calendar, where each day is simply given a consecutive number (tomorrow's date is today's date, plus one). Every 394 years and a quarter, it has a round figure in the Mayan's counting system -- they used a mix of base-20 and base-18 numbers.
Using our numbers (with their system), the upcoming round figure date in 2012 will be:
Mayan calendar = our calendar
12.19.19.17.19 = 2012.12.20
13.00.00.00.00 = 2012.12.21
13.00.00.00.01 = 2012.12.22
and the calendar continues.
The previous round figure was in 1618 (day number 12.00.00.00.00) and the next one will be in 2407.
The charlatans who fabricated the Big 2012 Hoax (not José) picked this date and changed all the other hoaxes, in order to fit this chosen date. This was done during the Summer of 2003, because the charlatans are the same ones who made money from the Planet X hoax.

Planet X: dreamed by Nancy (who claims it was a message from aliens). A rogue planet was supposed to pass too close to us in May-June 2003, causing most of the problems that are shown in Roland's movie (the movie "2012" is largely based on this 2003 end-of-the-world). "Friends" of Nancy made lots of money selling books on how to survive the passage of Planet X. After June 2003, they needed a new hoax.
---
Nibiru: a fictitious planet created for a story written in the 1960s. In the original story, Nibiru cannot return before the year 2085. When it does return, it cannot harm Earth.
---
The doomsday predictions for the planetary alignment (including California falling into the ocean) had originally been prepared for the "alignment" of 1982 (all planets on the same side of the Sun, but definitely not in a line) and for the even less-aligned alignment of 1998-1999.
There is no significant planetary alignment in 2012, other than an imprecise syzygy of Sun-Mercury-Venus-Saturn (a lot less precise than the one involving the same 4 objects on March 21, 1894).
---
Roland's movies have a way to "sound true" (to people who do not understand the topic) and yet to be so far from the truth.
Independence Day (big UFO frying up the white house, then destroyed by a computer virus -- as if the aliens were using Windows 95)
Godzilla the remake (yeah. Right).
---
If you are willing to let yourself be freaked by a Hollywood movie, then go right ahead. I'm sure Sony Pictures Inc. appreciates your attitude. They need more people like you. After all, they pumped 260 million dollars in Roland's movie; they want a good return on their investment.
12. It is a myth, made up by *modern* people, to make money.
13. It's a point of transition... You can do your part in helping balance the world by practicing:
Love, gratitude, forgiveness, respect, tolerance, and sharing.
There are positive aspects of this transition.
14. It is neither a prophecy nor a myth. It is a hoax created by frauds and wackjobs to make money.
The claimed 2012 doomsday is a hoax. Everything the scam artists are saying about 2012 is utterly false.
The Mayan calendar doesn't end, it just recycles. The Maya didn't predict anything for 2012. They didn’t make prophecies and the end of one cycle and start of another was an event to celebrate.
The people talking about all the signs of the end times happening now don’t realize that they have been happening throughout history.
The History Channel doomsday schlockumentary consists of lies, half truths, and wild speculation.
There were no ancient prophecies concerning 2012. Nostradamus never mentioned it. No one predicted it before the hoaxers started claiming it. This was after their 2003 doomsday failed to occur on schedule and they needed to keep selling their books and assorted doomsday garbage.
None of it is said or supported by scientists.
All the claimed astronomical events are either impossible or have no effect on us.
The Solar maximum is now expected to occur in May 2013 and to be less energetic than average. It could interfere with electronics and communications.
We aren't going to have any alignments aside from the apparent alignment that occurs every year at the December solstice.
Geomagnetic reversal (polar reversal) takes hundreds to thousands of years to occur. We wouldn’t even feel it happening.
Nibiru doesn't exist. It came from Z. Sitchen's misinterpretation of ancient Sumerian references to the planet Jupiter. Even Sitchen didn't claim it would come back in 2012 (he said 2085). Nancy Lieder, who hears aliens in her head and originally said her "Planet X" would be here in 2003) took over Sitchen's imaginary planet and changed her doomsday date to 2012 when her original prediction failed.
The Institute for Human Continuity isn’t a real organization. It is a website advertising the movie 2012. It is run by Sony Pictures and if you look around on the site, you will find that the “Press Releases” are all about characters in the movie. It is all fictional.
That covers most of the absurd claims. The world will still be here after 2012, along with most of us.
